Lei day is May day in Hawai'i!

ALOHA!!!!
Last but not least!!!

was the teacher on this last project; I taught my 4th graders about watercolor and lei making.  First we learned about watercolor techniques; wet on wet, dry brush, crayon resist, graduated wash.  The students had to make a master piece water color painting with 2 different techniques! While we waited for the watercolor painting to dry we started making color flowers out or our colorful construction paper.  The had to string their leis, with yarn and little pieces of straws to put in between the flowers. At the end they would tie both end of the yarn to wrap around their neck.  Then I introduced them to the Hawaiian culture and "why is it we make lei or what is it used for?" I taught them different words that we used in Hawaii; Pau(done), Mahalo nui( Thank you very much), Aloha(love,hi, bye), A Hui Hou ( see you later).
In Hawaii lei making it very popular; instead of giving your teacher an apple for respect; your give a lei to your teacher out of respect!  You can give leis to anyone your care about or anyone you have great respect for!  I'm very happy of how this lesson turned out because the students respected the Hawaiian culture in a great manner. Mahalo Nui Loa!!!! SHAKA \m/

COIL POTsss!!

Coil Pots: Clay and Kalei hahahah!!; It was fun dealing with Clay! First we had to get a big clump of clay and mend it so it would have air bubbles in it. After that was finish we had to make a snake shape coil, so we could start our pot.  We had to make sure we cut little x's to where the coil would touch another coil, so it would mend into each other without coming apart.  In the mean while we had to put a symbol of your or what your like to do.  I put a flower in the inside and a flower on the outside of the pot. I'm in love with flowers, so I deiced to decorate it with red flowers and lines.  When I painted my pot I blended blue and yellow to make green! I LOVE COOL COLORS!!!

During my class, I would allow them to make a bigger pot and taller pot. Then I would want them to research pottery and how it was used back in the day and their art project is try to make what they are researching on.

3-D DESIGN!!!

3-D paper: In Class we were taught how to bend and fold and curl paper with our hands.  This was fun! Our table used warm colors.  I love curling paper, so I used alot of swirls in my project and used steps to get the steps going to the other side of the paper.

During my class, I would allow them to explore their imagination and come up with the own town, and what they would have in it and everything they love and always wanted. Then we could incorporate this project with things they could bring in.  They could just bring in random objects to make there project.

Print Making TRAINS!

Print making:  We learned about Print making.  First we carved out designs in to a piece of styrofoam.  Then we rolled over it with ink; I used blue.  Then we had to stamp it on our colored paper.  It make box's  that looked like train cars.  My design was swirls and bubbles. We had to stamp out three of the train cars, and make a theme out of them.  I put coal and dirt in my train cars, and they were getting carried out in to the sun!

During my Class, I would have them research when print making was first started and what was the importance of it?  They could have a display board or write a paper about print making.

Marbling around the GLOBE!!

Marbling:  Karissa and Jami taught us to marble with shaving cream and paint!  We had a picture that we had to trace or draw that we were going to marble.  I had The China Wall.  First you drew your picture, then when over it with a sharpie.  We had to cut out our picture then when we were finish; we had to go over to the marbling station.  There were different pans, we had to first put shaving cream then adjacent colors I used Orange, Green and yellow.  I just mixed them all together and had some waves of color.  It was pretty cool, because after we pressed down on the paint and shaving cream we had to scrape it off of our picture, so we could see it after.. it dried so fast!

During my class, I would love to do the same project but just using different colors, and different places or using numbers for math!

PUZZLEzzz'

Puzzle piece: We had to make warm or cool color puzzle that we could make and connect our pieces to everyone else puzzle piece.  I made my a cool color using different blues and purples some green.  I put a fish in my piece because fish swim in cool water like the blue ocean!
During my class, I would allow them to get in groups of 5 and make their own puzzle with cool and warm colors, they could use different animals or insects.

MACRAMe'

Macrame: This was one of my favorites, I have always done sometime of macrame during my teenage years.  This time we had to make a keychain or a bracelet, we had to add 3 beads on my key chain; the blue one stands for the ocean and the brown stands for my parents!  I wish I could of made on for my brothers and sisters so I could give it to them for their birthdays!!! But this was fun project to work with your hands!

With my class, I would give them a week to make what they want, bracelets, necklaces and we would do this around christmas time so they could give it to their friends or family!!

Blind Drawings..

Blind drawings: This was a fun project, I did many different blind drawing even trying to draw my hand without looking at the paper.  This Project is great for kinds trusting they eyes and seeing if the brain can draw without looking at its paper and keeping your eye on your subject.-- What we had to do was keep out eye on the flowers and draw without looking and the paper in white crayon.  Then we had to use warm or cool colors  with water color to make the white crayon drawing come out.  I used different colors because I LOVE COLORS!

During my class, I would allow my students to draw their partners face and the color it over with watercolor and see what the get!

Plaidness with bunnies!!

Plain Bunny: First grade project we learned about complimentary colors.  I got a choice to chose red and green or purple and yellow. I choose purple and yellow.. not sure why because I cant stand those colors together!-- We used plan white paper and drew horizontal and vertical lines with the purple and yellow paint.  There was some thick lines and thin lines to make that plain affect.  Then we traced our bunny bodies from templates that were already cut out for us, on our plaid paintings.  Then we placed them together to form a bunny; added some glue and it was a beautiful paid bunny!

During my class, Im going to let them make different types of insects and making them out of plain paper also; so we could incorporate it with science class.

Safari Project

Safari: We learned about cool colors and warm colors.  We choose an animals that we could find in the safari.  I love tigers so I my pick was a tiger smiling.  We used a light blue crayon to sketch out the tiger and we had to make sure we didn't draw it to dark because when we put on our special glasses we could see the tiger.  Then we had to used warm colors to draw over the tiger. We could draw lines, shapes and different patterns all in warm colors; orange, yellow, red, pink.   Then when our whole tiger was gone in camouflage, we had to put on our special glasses, a the tiger just popped out!!!

During my class, I would let them draw there favorite food and we would to the same methods we learned today!

Eric Carle Project

Eric Carle: The very Hungry Caterpillar.  In class we had to create a page thats like the book we read. We took white paper, and painted on different colors and made different shapes on the painting, and trying to used different textured methods. In the mean while we had to come up with a story to make a page of our story.  My story was about Mai and Jay flew over the Blue mountains at midnight together.  They used teamwork to get to the other-side of the mountains.

During my class, I would let them be in groups and act out a story of how you accomplish things together using teamwork!

Van Gogh

Van Gogh: We did a kindergarden project with methods from Van Gogh's painting Starry Night.  We used finger paint for our first project and trying to come up with a similar creation that will show movement through out the painting.  For the second project we did a 3rd-5th grade project with tissue paper and metallic sharpie with oil pastels.  The purpose of this project was to learn how to create movement and rhythm through out the paper.

During my own class I would introduce water color we would react this project with different watercolor methods.

My Foot Print

Our assignment was to make a outline of our footprint and create symbols to represent ourselves.  First I used green paper because my favorite color is great, but I used colorful paper beacuse I love the color of the rainbow.  The big pink heart represents my family and how much I love them and my family is growing.  The small heart means I'm In love and hopeful getting engaged soon.  ALOHA; means Im from Hawaii and am proud of being Hawaiian and I show the aloha spirit.  Behind the Ribbon Is my name Kaleinani Kabalis.  The huge red Ribbon means I can make tons a ribbons because and the time I work for Kessler's Floral and we have to be ribbon masters.  The Sun Is for my bright and happy personality and that I love to make people laught, and love to be out in the sun to tan and to be out in the ocean surfing.  If you can see closely I sew each part together because its all a combination of my life and what means to me the most and I love to sew!

When I have my own class Im going to make them do that same project of a foot print and the hand, I would let them choose 5 things to describe about them and they can place it on there hand print. The foot I would ask them whats one thing they want to learn this year in my class. They will have to introduce themselves to the class then they will have to place the hand and foot print on the cubby hole where they put there bags.
